01Method

  1. 1

Heat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two mini doughnut pans thoroughly.

  2. 2

In a large bowl, use a fork to blend together the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, nutmeg, and cinnamon. Work in the shortening until the mixture has a coarse, crumbly texture.

  3. 3

In a separate bowl, combine the apples, milk, and eggs. Fold this mixture into the dry ingredients until just incorporated, then spoon the batter into the prepared pans.

  4. 4

Bake until the bottoms are lightly golden, approximately 10 minutes. Carefully turn the doughnuts out onto a wire rack and allow them to cool completely.

  5. 5

Pour the melted butter into a shallow dish. Stir together the sugar and cinnamon in a second shallow dish. Dip each cooled doughnut in the butter, then roll in the cinnamon sugar to coat.
