01Method
- 1
Position an oven rack about 6 inches below the broiler element and heat the broiler to high.
- 2
Arrange bun halves cut-side up on a baking sheet. Broil until just golden, roughly 1 minute — keep a close eye as they brown quickly. Remove and set aside.
- 3
Reduce oven temperature to 350°F (175°C).
- 4
Brown the ground beef in a large skillet over medium heat, breaking it up as it cooks, about 10 minutes. Drain off excess fat. Add the onion and cook, stirring, until softened and translucent, about 5 more minutes. Mix in the pizza sauce, Parmesan, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, paprika, onion powder, and red pepper flakes. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat and let it simmer to meld the flavors, 10–15 minutes, stirring regularly.
- 5
Spoon the meat sauce generously over each bun half on the baking sheet, then cover each with a portion of mozzarella.
- 6
Bake in the preheated oven until the cheese is bubbly and lightly browned, about 10 minutes.
