01Method

  1. 1

In a large bowl, combine the warm milk with 2 teaspoons of the sugar and the yeast. Stir until both dissolve completely, about 5 minutes.

  2. 2

In a separate large bowl, whisk together the remaining sugar, flour, and salt. Add the milk-yeast mixture along with the oil, then mix until a cohesive dough forms.

  3. 3

Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead until the texture is smooth and elastic. Form into a ball, return to the bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and allow to rise until doubled in size, at least 1 hour.

  4. 4

Using a bench knife, divide the dough into 4 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a log shape, then cut diagonally into roughly 1-inch segments.

  5. 5

Spread bread crumbs on a large flat plate. Roll each dough piece through the crumbs to coat, then arrange on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Leave to proof until visibly puffed, 30 to 45 minutes.

  6. 6

Heat the oven to 375°F (190°C).

  7. 7

Bake until the rolls turn a deep golden brown, 15 to 20 minutes.
