01Method

  1. 1

Sift the flour into a large bowl, add salt and mix well. Work in the softened butter using a fork or wooden spoon until combined.

  2. 2

Crumble the yeast into warm water and let it dissolve completely. Pour this mixture along with the remaining water into the flour and knead until you achieve a smooth, moist, elastic dough. Cover the bowl with a clean cloth and allow to rise for one hour.

  3. 3

Peel and finely chop the onion. Heat the oil in a pan and cook the onion until golden and softened. Remove the seeds from the peppers, dice them finely, and roughly chop the basil leaves.

  4. 4

Once the onion has cooled, fold it into the dough along with the peppers and basil, distributing them evenly. Divide the dough into three equal portions and shape each into a round loaf.

  5. 5

Line the insides of three flowerpots with baking paper. Place one loaf into each pot and let rise for another hour.

  6. 6

Preheat the oven to 200°C. Bake the loaves in the pots for 20–25 minutes, then turn them out onto a wire rack to cool. Remove the baking paper.

  7. 7

Once cooled, return the loaves to their pots and display on the table.
