01Method

  1. 1

Heat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a large baking dish with butter and set aside.

  2. 2

Wash the potatoes and partially peel them, leaving some skin on; slice thinly to about 1/8 inch thickness.

  3. 3

Layer the potato slices evenly across the bottom of the prepared baking dish.

  4. 4

In a large pot over medium-high heat, melt the butter and sauté the onion and garlic until softened and translucent, about 7–10 minutes. Stir in the cream of broccoli soup, cream of celery soup, milk, salt, pepper, and half of the cheddar cheese. Heat until the cheese is fully melted.

  5. 5

Pour the cheese sauce over the potatoes and scatter the remaining cheddar on top. Cover the dish tightly with foil or a lid.

  6. 6

Bake for 45 minutes, then uncover and continue baking until the cheese on top begins to brown, approximately 10 more minutes.
