01Method

  1. 1

Fill a large pot with generously salted water and bring to a boil. Add the ziti and cook for 8 to 10 minutes until al dente, then drain and set aside.

  2. 2

While the pasta cooks, warm the olive oil in a large heavy skillet over medium heat. Sauté the onion until softened, then stir in the rosemary and garlic. Remove the mixture to a small bowl.

  3. 3

Add the ground beef and sausage to the same skillet and cook over medium-high heat until fully browned. Stir in the reserved onion mixture and the spaghetti sauce, season with salt, then lower the heat and let everything simmer for 10 minutes.

  4. 4

Heat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish. Build the layers: start with half the pasta, then lay in the provolone, dollop on the sour cream, spread the cottage cheese, and spoon over slightly less than half the meat sauce. Top with the remaining pasta, the mozzarella, the rest of the meat sauce, and a final dusting of Parmesan.

  5. 5

Bake for 20 to 30 minutes until the dish is heated through and all the cheeses are bubbling and melted.
