01Method
- 1
Heat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9x13-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
- 2
Place the flour, 1 cup butter, 3/4 cup white sugar, egg, baking powder, and 1/2 tsp salt into a food processor and pulse until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs that hold together when pressed. Press about 3/4 of the dough evenly and firmly into the bottom of the prepared pan to form a compact crust.
- 3
In a skillet over medium heat, melt the remaining butter. Add the diced apples, brown sugar, remaining white sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt; cook, stirring frequently, until the apples have softened, about 5 minutes. Add the cornstarch and continue stirring until the juices thicken, adding a little more cornstarch if necessary.
- 4
Spread the apple filling evenly over the crust using a spatula. Scatter the reserved crumble dough over the top.
- 5
Bake until the topping turns golden brown, 30 to 40 minutes. Allow to cool for 10 minutes before slicing into bars.
